Proceeds from the Purple & Gold gala benefit the Ephrata Area Education Foundation. The fundamental mission of the Foundation is to provide financial support for innovative educational opportunities for ALL students, K-12, in the Ephrata Area School District. The Foundation offers Venture Grants and Signature Programs intended to spark interest and comprehension in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. For example, a fourth-grade class at Fulton Elementary School learned to create a spin art machine from a cake box and electronic components! While it was fun for the students, the intention was to learn firsthand the different forms of energy and how all the components worked together to create a machine. In a school district where one out of two students receives free or reduced-fee lunches – a key indicator of childhood poverty -- the Foundation firmly believes in providing cutting edge programming that gives students the confidence and competence to pursue careers in STEM-related fields. By pursuing jobs in high-demand jobs, the local economy grows and the cycle of poverty is broken.
